AHS Honor Societies

Membership Information

Membership in the Allentown Honor Societies is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to high school students.  Selection for membership in the National Honor Society is based upon the ideals of the society – Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character.  Students in tenth through twelfth grades are eligible for membership.  For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a weighted cumulative grade point average of 3.700 or better (starting with the Class of 2017).  Those students who meet this criteria are invited to complete a Student Activity Information Form that provides the Faculty Council with information regarding the candidate's leadership and service.  A history of leadership experiences and participation in school and community service is required.  Students should have participation in at least two student activity organizations and documented community organizations.  To evaluate a candidate's character, the Faculty Council uses two forms of input:  first, school disciplinary records are reviewed; second, teacher recommendations regarding a candidate's character and leadership abilities are reviewed.  Serious discipline infractions will be evaluated by the Faculty Council.  Candidates, like members, may have no more than 4 tardies to school/class per school year and no more than 5 demerits per school year nor any Honor Code Level 2 Violations (if a Level 1 is on the record, the student must have one year with no violations, HIB Level 2 Violations (if a Level 1 is on the record - the student must have one year with no violations), ISS or OSS on their discipline record.  Students that have any 3 or 4 point demerit discipline infractions on their records for the current or preceding years are still eligible to be considered for NHS membership via the application process, but the discipline record will become part of the criteria that will determine a candidate's eligibility to become a member of the NHS.  A student honor code will also be issued and students will be expected to comply.  This information is then reviewed and evaluated by the 5 member NHS Faculty Council.  A majority vote of the Council is necessary for selection.

In addition to the National Honor Society, Allentown High School also has Honor Societies for English, Science, Mathematics, History, Spanish, French, Italian, Latin and Fine Arts.  Please click on the appropriate links to find information on all of the Allentown Honor Societies as well as applications/requirements for membership.
